UDC Operating Remotely on Friday, Jan. 30

The University of the District of Columbia’s academic and administrative offices will conduct business remotely on Friday, Jan. 30. All on-campus activities, including athletic-related activities, are cancelled.

Campuses will reopen on Monday, Feb. 2.

Staff: Contact your immediate supervisor with questions or for further instruction regarding remote work expectations. 

Faculty: Reach out to your immediate supervisor and/or the dean for questions and further instruction regarding the transition to emergency remote instruction (ERI).  The Center for the Advancement of Learning (CAL) is available to support faculty with instructional continuity, including support for Blackboard, Zoom, Webex and other teaching and learning technologies.

Students: Due to inclement weather, the university will be closed to face-to-face operations. Instruction will be moved to emergency remote, including synchronous and asynchronous methods. Certain laboratory, clinical, and other hands-on classes for which in-person instruction is a requirement may necessitate a make-up lesson, but every effort will be made to pursue virtual learning to the extent possible. Where synchronous virtual instruction is intended, published class meeting times must be observed so that students’ schedules are not disrupted.

The safety and security of our students, faculty, staff, and the broader community remain our top priority. We will continue to provide updates regarding the status of the university’s academic and administrative offices as conditions change.

Bachelor of Arts in Early Childhood Education

Early childhood education is vital for young learners, setting them on a path to success. You can be the person to provide that life-changing education to young students, supporting and nurturing their development. Earn your Bachelor of Arts in Early Childhood Education from the University of the District of Columbia (UDC) and begin a rewarding career providing the children in your community the education they deserve!

The early childhood education program at UDC is strategically designed to equip you with the skills and knowledge needed for the comprehensive care and education of children in preschool through third grade, in addition to fostering professional interactions with their families.

The program emphasizes the responsiveness to the developmental and cultural uniqueness of each child. Throughout this program, you will design, implement and evaluate teaching and learning practices tailored to diverse communities.

In addition to coursework, you will be required to complete a student teaching experience, providing crucial opportunities in real-world educational environments. These academic opportunities are sure to provide just what you need as you pursue your postgraduate goals and take your first steps into the workforce as the highly skilled early childhood educator you've always dreamed you could be.

Admission Requirements & How to Apply

Want to apply? Admission into the early childhood education program is facilitated through the university application process. Once you have been accepted into the B.A. program, you must apply internally to the Education Division of the College of Arts and Sciences during your second semester as a sophomore to become a teacher candidate (formally admitted to the teacher preparation program).
